FAQ

Common questions

What is the difference between a roll-off roof and a flip-roof enclosure?

In a roll-off roof observatory the roof slides sideways on rails — mechanically simple, robust and low-maintenance. In a flip-roof enclosure the roof panels fold upward, either on one side (Model 1.0) or both sides (Model 2.0). Flip-roof designs allow observation at lower elevation angles. The best choice depends on your site, size requirements and observing goals.

Do you deliver and install outside Germany?

Yes. We deliver and install across Europe. Completed projects include installations on La Palma (Canary Islands) and in Greece. Transport logistics and on-site installation are discussed individually during the enquiry.

Do you build observatories for schools, clubs or research institutions?

Yes. We have built school observatories with heated warm rooms and large installations for club and research use. Enquiries from institutions are very welcome.

Timber or steel — which is better for an observatory?

Both have their advantages. Timber is visually appealing, well-insulated and the right choice for most private sites. Steel offers greater stability for large spans and extreme conditions — ideal for remote sites or exposed locations such as mountains or islands. We build both and advise on the best option.

How much does a custom observatory cost?

Every installation is a custom build — the price depends on size, construction type, site and equipment. We provide free, no-obligation quotes on request. Use the contact form or call us directly.
